Spacecraft to Impact Moon This Weekend

This weekend - ESA's spacecraft SMART-1 (Small Missions for Advanced Research and Technology) plans to end its mission in the extravagant way - crash itself on the object that it has been orbitted for sometime, the Moon. The Crash is planned on Sept. 03, 2006 - 05.03 UT. Too bad that Indonesia is not included in the recommended site to watch this event - as Hawaii, North America and South America are the preferred.

As Deep Impact (its probe with Comet Tempel-1) and Galileo (with the mighty Jupiter), SMART-1 impact mission is planned to give Earth-based observers to watch in real time on the effects of a "not-too-small" object slams into a natural space object. Maybe the result would be used to better predict on how much damage that could be caused by such object should any of them hit our Earth.

So for you - the Moon watcher, maybe the next time, you will see the new impact crater around the Lake of Execellence in the Moon Southern Hemisphere..

Clear skies for you all..

PS; Pictures are from spacecom.. thnx..
